Here’s a total ninja move / back take that I pulled off last year in a NAGA (executive – expert finals). I originally learned this way back in 1999 at a Jean Jacques Machado seminar (I was a purple belt). I never forgot this back take and have used it pretty consistently since 1999. The choke at the end is pretty nasty. You can see in the video that my competitor was pretty “out of it” after the ref stopped it.
I hear the term “old guy / old man Jiu-Jitsu” quite a bit. Hell there’s even OMJJ shirts! To me, this video is represents “old guy Jiu-Jitsu”. I have never let my age effect how I train and practice BJJ. In fact, I like to go out of my way to show that at 30 or 40 years old that one can display a high level of exciting BJJ. You don’t have to “slow it down” and sit on the sidelines!
Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin…but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Samuel Ullman
